More than 96 percent of all homes in the United Kingdom have a television set or are able to watch live television on various types of devices. The UK government expects these households to apply for TV Licenses, which gives them the right to watch live TV. More than 25 million television licenses are in use in the country today.
BBC owns the TV Licensing trademark. It has contracted other companies that are responsible for administering the collection of the license fees. The companies that it has contracted are responsible for enforcing the licensing system. Some of the contracted companies include Havas Media, Post Office, PayPoint plc and Proximity London Ltd among others.
