The government of the United Kingdom has a non-ministerial department known as Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs or HMRC. The department is in charge of collecting taxes as well as paying different forms of state support to the deserving or eligible individuals and business organizations in the United Kingdom. It also operates as a law enforcement agency.

The government formed this non-ministerial department after merging two other departments on April 18, 2005. The two departments that merged were Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise and Inland Revenue. The revenue department has jurisdiction over the whole of the United Kingdom. The department is responsible for the provision of different types of services in the UK.
